Good Food, Weird Service Mollica's Italian Market & Deli

Mollica's has been around for years, and is very well regarded. It's not a big place, but it gets very busy - sometimes the line goes out the door! Anytime I eat here, I try to get here early. If you get here at noon, you might not find a table!

It isn't a full service restaurant. You need to stand in line and order at the counter. After you order, they will give you a number to put on your table, and they will bring the food out to you.

The best tip I can give you is to look down and to the right as you enter the restaurant - thats where you will find a whiteboard with their daily specials. I saw that they had an "Andouille Grilled Grinder" today, which isn't normally on the menu, so thats what I got.

The sandwich itself was a bit dry, having only the sausage and a smattering of peppers, but fortunately it came with a big bowl of marinara-ish sauce. Rather than trying to put sauce on the sandwich, I just dipped, and it was great. My one regret is that there was no cheese.

My food came with a small bowl of pasta salad. I don't really like pasta salad, so I gave it to a friend. I did take one small bite to be sure that I still don't like it... and I don't. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with Mollica's pasta salad, I just don't like pasta salad in general. My buddy said it was great.

The weirdness happened after we were all done eating, and just sitting there chatting. A bus-lady came up to our table and asked if she could take our baskets. We told her, "sure", then she demanded that we stack them up for her. It was kind of funny, but she just wouldn't take them until we stacked them up.

To be fair, she was holding something in one of her hands, but she could have easily stacked them herself with her free one, or even gone back to the kitchen and dumped what she had and came back for our trash. It just seemed like a really weird thing to be told to clean up our own table before she would take our baskets. Also she phrased it more like a demand than a request, which made the situation all the more surreal.

Overall, it was a good lunch. The sandwich could have been better, but it definitely wasn't bad. The chips and drink were standard fair. The price was borderline reasonable, but a tad on the high side. I tried to get them to let me have a bag of chips instead of pasta salad, but they wouldn't do it, so I had to pay extra for the chips, and I got my unwanted pasta salad to boot. Ahh well, you can't win 'em all.

There was cheese, it was just melted onto (into?) the bread. Apparently not enough to be noticeable by some. :-)
