Random Central Amerian Cuisine El Poblano Restaurante

I went to El Poblano today for lunch with a friend. I've been here twice before, and both times were excellent, so I was looking forward to it. El Poblano is great, because it isn't just a typical Mexican restaurant - they have a large selection of items from Central America on the menu as well.

A lady came out to take our order, and I asked her what she liked. This flustered her badly, and she ran off. I got the impression that she didn't speak much English, and wasn't equipped to handle anything from me outside of fumbling with the Spanish on the menu. A few moments later, a man came out and asked us what we wanted. The menu has a lot of items on it, but no descriptions. I decided to be daring and ordered something at random from the list of Central American entrees: Chuleta Encebollada.

El Poblano also has a large selection of sodas that are imported from Mexico, including Coke in a glass bottle. I ordered a Pineapple soda to go with my meal.

The food came out quickly, and Chuleta Encebollada turned out to be very thin pork chops cooked with (and covered with) peppers and onions. It also came with rice and beans on the side, and some tasty corn tortillas.

The beans were great, the rice was a bit bland (but I'm not the best judge here - I've never been a huge fan of Spanish rice). The Pork was just ok. It was pretty dry, and required quite a bit of work to eat. The flavor on it was good, but could have been a lot better. I've previously had excellent food at El Poblano, so I was a bit disappointed. The corn tortillas were awesome, especially when I threw some peppers and onions in them, with a little pork, then dipped them in my beans.

I like El Poblano quite a bit, so I'll definitely be back, but odds are pretty good I won't order the Chuleta Encebollada again - They have much better items on their menu!
