Speak Up, Man! Briar Mart

I wanted something a little different today, so I decided to try Briar-Mart - it's a Middle-Eastern market with a small restaurant inside.

I ordered the Gyro combo, which is cheap (6 bucks), and comes with fries and a drink. Then I went to another part of the counter to wait for my food and saw some interesting looking food under a glass container. I recognized Backlava, but another item looked like shredded wheat, stuffed with something. I asked what it was, and the guy muttered, "Taka..." - he trailed off at the end, and I couldn't really make out the word.

"Taka...?", I replied. He corrected me by saying, "Taka..." and trailing off again. Ok, so now I sort of know what its called but I still have no idea what it is, which was my original question. The guy behind the counter didn't seem inclined to offer more than its name (just barely), and I didn't feel inclined to give extra money to someone who was so unhelpful, so I let it drop.

While I was waiting for my food, I decided to go to the restroom. After washing my hands, I realized there were no paper towels to dry them. Further inspection revealed that there were no paper products in the bathroom at all - not even toilet paper! Sure glad I didn't have to go "number two".

After getting my food, I found a table and sat down.

In all, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The fries were the highlight, being very fresh, and almost crisp, without being burnt. After eating at Mediterranean Cafe a couple times over the last month, the gyro was very disappointing. The pita was a bit hard in spots and the meat was a bit overdone. It was pretty boring, as gyros go.

I wasn't very impressed by Briar Mart. I've found several far superior places for Gyros. Maybe they have some other specialty that really shines, but I didn't find it on my first visit.
