Buffets Usually Suck China Inn II

I don't often go to buffets because they usually suck, but I was meeting some friends and they got to pick. China Inn II has a pretty nice building, but way too little parking. I had to park at an adjacent strip mall and walk a bit (note: this picture was taken on the way out, thus the empty parking spot).

The buffet consists of two tables: one with entrees and soup, and the other with an assortment of finger foods, desserts, and salad. It was fairly small, but well kept and clean.

After spending some time figuring out what I wanted to try, I managed to come up with this plate:

Starting at the top left and going clockwise, I got a crab rangoon, orange chicken, crispy chicken, beef & mushrooms (on the rice), and chicken balls with garlic sauce. I also grabbed a bowl of hot & sour soup.

As I was eating, I came across something awfully tough, chewy and sour. It turned out to be a chunk of orange peel. Gross. Other than that, the orange chicken was actually pretty good. The chicken balls sucked (go figure), the crispy chicken was really dry, but the skin was tasty. The beef & mushrooms and crab rangoon were exceptionally average. The big saving grace of the meal was the soup, which had a good kick to it, and a lot of flavor.

I went back to the buffet for some dessert, and found some chunks of honeydew melon, pineapple, and sliced bananas. All were great, and helped end it on a good note.

I stay away from buffets because they are almost always pretty mundane affairs, and China Inn II is no exception. At least the company was good.
