The Fuzz Hangs Out At Savelli's Savelli's

As you come out of Old Colorado City and into Manitou Springs, one of the first places you run into is Savelli's. The building looks pretty cool - it has windows painted to make it look like there is a second story, and my kids love it. It's also right across the street from the nice big park in Manitou.

Anyways, a fairly large group of my friends (seven) decided to meet here for lunch. We arrived, and ordered at the counter, then took our seats. One thing about Savelli's is that it is a favorite of the local police force. I don't recall ever coming here and not seeing police officers or firemen eating lunch, and today was no exception. If you are on the lam, this is not the place to hide! Lucky for me, I have no such problem, because it would suck to not be able to go here.

I ordered some cheese bread and a steak sub.

The cheesebread is pretty huge for an appetizer - it basically looks like a cheese pizza without the pizza sauce. Luckily, it comes with a side of sauce to dip the slices in. It's really really good, and I order it every time.

The sandwich is awesome too. Despite being called a steak sandwich, It isn't quite a cheesesteak. It's chopped ribeye, served on a French roll with cheese, tomatoes, onions, and peppers (I eighty-sixed the peppers). There is a small amount of some kind of sauce on there as well.

This is the kind of place I really enjoy. It's a small local joint with good food, reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere.
