After my disappointing pastrami sandwich at Wooglin's deli the other day, I had a frightening realization: I had no idea where to get a *good* pastrami sandwich in Colorado Springs. I was crying about this to my friend Z, when he proclaimed that we should make it our mission to find the best pastrami sandwich in town. What an awesome idea!

We immediately turned to our good friend Google, and did some searches for "Colorado Springs and "Pastrami". Guest what turned up? Broadway Deli. So away we went.

Calling it a Deli is sort of downplaying it a bit. It is really a full service restaurant... that happens to have a deli counter. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive so I wasted no time in ordering a hot pastrami sandwich on rye, with provolone and spicy mustard. Grilled.

My first impression was that the sandwich was beautiful. It looked and smelled so good I was salivating before the waitress put it down. The difference between this sandwich, and the one I had two days ago just in appearance was striking.

After my first bite, I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed. This sandwich is good. It was grilled perfectly. The pastrami was tender and slightly moist, but not greasy. The mustard and cheese and pastrami and bread just work together very well. So well in fact, that I want another one. I don't think I could eat two though, these things are huge.

Broadway Deli has a very polished presentation, not just of the food, but the store in general. The decor, sinage, logo, etc really has such a professional feel to it all, that I was convinced it must be a chain. Surprisingly, it actually seems to be local. I couldn't find any evidence to the contrary on the internet, so it must be true.

I've heard mixed reviews of this place, but my first experience here left me very satisfied. I had a very good pastrami sandwich, just when I wanted one! However, I won't know if its the best pastrami sandwich in town until I've tried them all, so further research is necessary.
