How About Some Service, Howard? Howard's Bar-B-Q

Howard's has been in town for over 30 years, in various locations. Just recently, they moved from their location on N. Chestnut to a much smaller spot on N. Circle. Its easy to miss if you don't know where it is - in the strip mall, just north of the Safeway, behind Cheers Liquor Mart.

I ordered a beef sandwich plate with two sides, corn and beans. What I got was this:

I told the lady who brought it out that I had ordered corn, not cole slaw. She told me I could keep the plate, and she'd bring me some corn out. Ok, cool.

A few minutes passed, and still no corn. I saw her emerge from the kitchen and caught her eye. "Corn?" she asked, from across the restaurant. "That's what I ordered.", I replied. She quickly disappeared into the kitchen.

A few more minutes passed, and she finally came out with my side! Hooray!

Everything tasted great. The beans had a few onions in them, but it wasn't overpowering. I could also taste a hint of sweetness (molasses?). The corn was doused in butter and served pre-skewered, so it was easy to eat. I had to use a fork to eat a lot of the beef, which was just spilling out of the sides of the sandwich. It was awesome.

So, the food was typical Howard's - terrific, but the service was a bit questionable. I didn't see either Howard or his son at the store today, so maybe that was part of the problem - the lady who took my order was sitting in the dining room chatting with a friend the entire time I was there, and only getting up to work if someone walked in the door. I bet that wouldn't happen if the boss was around!
